Copernicus Benefits for Singapore

21 September, 2018 | Singapore (Raffles City Tower)

The European Commission is organising a Copernicus event in Singapore on 21 September 2018. It will bring together representatives  from the European Commission with European companies, Singaporean companies, and Singaporean authorities working in Earth Observation or environmental monitoring for a Copernicus Infosession in the morning. 

 

 

Background information:

Copernicus is the European Union's Earth Observation Programme, which monitors our planet and its environment for the ultimate benefit of the citizens of the world. For the Asian region, the Copernicus program offers following advantages:

  1. Preserving rich biodiversity
  2. Securing large Exclusive Economic Zones
  3. Supporting risk management in areas prone to natural disasters and affected by the consequences of climate change

This means comprehensive maritime monitoring by Sentinel-1 (one of seven satellites from which the programme obtains data) for our Singaporean partner.

5th Singapore Space Symposium 2018

15th October, 2018 | Singapore (NTU)
The theme for this year's panel session is "Space Technologies for Smart Cities".

Objectives:

  1. Promote research and development activities on the spacecraft bus, payload and satellite applications.
  2. Increase awareness on space industry's direction.
  3. Foster collaboration on satellite technologies between public institutions and industries


Main topics 2018:

  • Keynote address for SSS 2018 delivered by Prof. Charles Elachi: "The importance of remote-sensing from space"
  • Definition of a smart citiy in the context of space technologies.
  • Data analytics and exploitation (AI, deep learning, blockchain, etc.).
  • Ways to incorporate space technologies into exisiting processes.

This year's programme will conclude with a highly anticipated panel discussion by leaders of various organizations, sharing their insights on how the realization of a smart city in Singapore could be enhanced through space technologies.

The EPIC part of the SSS brings together European researchers active in H2020 with researchers from academia and industry. The aim is to demonstrate European competencies in spatial intelligence, improve awareness of Europe's satellite infrastructure and provide a forum for exchange about future RTDI directions.

eResearch Australasia 2018

15th - 19th October, 2018 | Melbourne (Pullman Albert Park)

eResearch 2018 will offer delegates the opportunity to engage, connect, and share their ideas and exemplars concerning new eResearch capabilities, and how information and communication technologies help researchers to collaborate, collect, manage, share, process, analyse, store, find, understand and re-use data and information.

At the eResearch EPIC finds out the state of play concerning Australia's interest in collaborations with the EU. EPIC tries to localize the most interested target group (DSM) and increases the general awareness of implementing a DSM in European politics until 2020. At the same time, it should be conveyed that there is the possibility of jointly exploring and designing the DSM, especially its eInfrastructures.

ICT 2018

04th - 06th December, 2018 | Vienna (Austria Center)

ICT 2018 organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology in cooperation with the Austrian Presidency, is specifically dedicated to networking and promoting research and innovation in the field of Information and Communication Technologies. The event will focus on the Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2018-20, including ICT calls across all three pillars of Horizon 2020.

The EPIC booth will be maintained together with our partner RMIT. There will be a few panel discussions of experts from EU, AU, NZ, SG with open interaction possibilities.

Europe's AI Initiative

Opportunities for New Zealand - Bridge formation & distance bridging

Europe os a competent partner in AI technology launching new AI initiatives as a part of its DSM strategy. Europe is keen to develop AI in socially and ethically responsible way in cooperation with international partners such as NZ.

The event will be held as a standalone EPIC event, but timely coincidental with the Australasian AI conference. The conference has a scientific focus. EPIC plans to benefit from the presence of Australian and international top experts in all areas of AI.

    Euro-Singapore Privacy Platform

    December 2018 or February, 2019 | Singapore

    Europe is a competent partner to develop novel IT systems in socially responsible ways. Europe's DS; concepts have the power to stimulate new esearch dirctions in privacy-preserving data processing. This in turn provides new opportunities for policies and research cooperation with Europe's international partners.

    The EPIC Euro-Singapore Privacy Platform brings together researchers and research managers with an interes in privacy preserving data processing concepts.

      EPIC Robotics Book Sprint 2019

      04th - 11th February, 2019 | Singapore (NUS)

      As last year EPIC and the National University of Singapore will publish an academic work on the topic "Ethics for robots and AI".

      Therefore EPIC will organize a Book Sprint Event. The scientific work will be published in the Cambridge University Press, experts have the possibility to apply via  Mail.


        WSDM 2019

        11th - 15th February, 2019 | Melbourne (RMIT)

        WSDM is one of the premier conferences on web-inspired research involving search and data mining. It is a highly selective conference that includes invited talks, a well as refereed full papers. WSD; publishes original, high-quality papers related to search an data mining on the Web and the Social Web, with an emphasis on practical yet prinicipled novel models of search an data mining, algorithm design and analysis, economic implications, and indepth experimental analysis of accuacy and performance.

        EPIC will organize a workshop or discussion panel trying to answer following question: "What are possible joint EU-AU directions for privacy-preserving web technologies in relation to EU DSM developments?

        The workshop sould show future research directions for privacy-preserving web technologies in cooperation between the EU and Australia and what it needs to be full incorporated on DSM.
